Why our veneers

See it before you commit to it.

Four reasons patients drive to Downey for veneers — instead of taking a chance closer to home.

  • Digital smile preview first

Before any drilling, we design your new smile digitally and mock it up directly on your teeth so you can see it from every angle. If you don't love it, we don't move forward. No surprises after prep.

  • Hand-layered porcelain — not stack-and-bake

Our local ceramist hand-builds each veneer layer by layer to capture the translucency and depth of natural enamel. You won't see the flat 'piano-key' look that gives most veneer work away.

  • Conservative prep — keep your enamel

Most clinics shave 1.5–2 mm of enamel off your front teeth. We prep 0.3–0.7 mm — the minimum required for a beautiful result. Your underlying teeth stay structurally sound for the long haul.

  • Two visits. New smile.

Consultation and design happen at visit one. Prep and final cementation happen at visit two — typically 2–3 weeks apart. Between visits you wear gorgeous custom temporaries that already look like the final.

The 5D Smiles Veneer Protocol · Design-first, prep-conservative

See your new smile, before any drilling.

Most veneer offices drill first, design later. We design first, drill only what we must. The five steps below are why patients drive to Downey to have Dr. Qiu do their smile — and why our case-acceptance rate after the wax-up try-in is 100%.

  1. 01

    Pre-design · 3D capture

    iTero scan, no impressions.

A 90-second intraoral scan captures every tooth surface, your bite, and your gumline at sub-50-micron precision. No goopy alginate trays, no impression material in your throat. The scan goes straight into our smile-design software.

Sub-50-micron precision · zero impression material

  2. 02

    Design · Digital Smile Design

See your new smile in software first.

Dr. Qiu designs every veneer in 3D over your scan — shape, length, edge curvature, position, color. You see a photoreal preview of your finished smile side-by-side with your current photo before any commitment, any drilling, any deposit.

Preview before commit · zero surprises

  3. 03

    Try-in · Mockup

Wear your new smile for 3 days.

We mock the digital design in temporary composite directly on your existing teeth. You wear it home. Eat with it. Smile at people. Show your spouse. If anything feels off, we redesign. Only when YOU approve do we move to porcelain prep.

Approve before prep · 100% case acceptance after try-in

  4. 04

    Prep · Conservative reduction

0.5mm prep. Often less. Sometimes none.

Where prep is needed, we remove about 0.5mm — half the thickness of a credit card. Many cases qualify for prep-less veneers (zero enamel reduction). The enamel that stays is the enamel that keeps your veneers bonded for 20+ years.

Preserve enamel · 20+ year bond strength

  5. 05

    Bond · Hand-layered porcelain

Local lab. Hand-layered shading. Same week.

Your final veneers come from our Downey-local lab. A master ceramist hand-layers the porcelain — building translucency, color depth, and surface texture tooth by tooth so every veneer matches the next. Bonded with biocompatible cement under a rubber dam.

    Local lab · hand-shaded · biocompatible bond

Same protocol on every smile — one veneer or sixteen. No surprises. No drilling we didn't show you first. Local lab, hand-layered porcelain, custom shading tooth-by-tooth.

How it works

Four steps. Two visits. New smile.

  1. 01

$145 consultation and digital smile design

Forty-five minutes with Dr. Qiu. We photograph your face and smile in detail, scan your teeth in 3D, and design your new smile digitally. You see exactly what the result will look like before any prep — and adjust anything you don't love.

  2. 02

Mock-up in your mouth (no drilling)

We can place a temporary composite mock-up directly on your teeth so you can wear the new smile for a day, take photos, and show your partner. This is the step most clinics skip — and it's why most patients are surprised by the final result.

  3. 03

    Conservative prep visit

Once the design is approved, we prep the front 6–10 teeth — typically 0.3–0.7 mm of enamel. You leave with custom temporaries that closely resemble the final veneers. Most patients eat dinner that night without issue.

  4. 04

Final bonding — your new smile delivered

Two to three weeks later, your hand-layered porcelain veneers arrive from our local lab. We bond them with bite verification, color check, and texture polish. You walk out with a smile you've been editing out of photos for years.

What veneers fix

Chips, gaps, stains, and tooth shape — in one visit.

Veneers are the right answer when your teeth are structurally healthy but cosmetically not what you want. They fix tetracycline staining that whitening can't touch, close gaps without orthodontics, even out worn or chipped edges, and reshape teeth that have always felt 'too small' or 'too pointy.' One treatment. Multiple problems solved.

Veneers vs. crowns

Less tooth removed. More original tooth preserved.

A crown wraps the entire tooth — requiring 60–70% of the natural tooth to be reduced. A veneer is bonded only to the front surface — preserving 90%+ of your original tooth. For cosmetic-only cases on healthy teeth, veneers are biologically the better choice. Crowns are reserved for teeth that need structural reinforcement.

About porcelain veneers

  • Properly bonded porcelain veneers routinely last 15–20 years. Long-term studies show 95% survival at 10 years and 85% at 20 years. Failure is almost always from chipping under heavy bite forces — we make a nightguard at delivery to protect them while you sleep.

If your teeth aren't aligned yet, straighten first with Invisalign clear aligners — veneers placed on crooked teeth immediately become misaligned. If you're also missing teeth, see how veneers pair with dental implants in a coordinated smile plan. One designer, one vision, one result.
